Recycling: save your old frying pan and turn it into an elegant ornament for hanging plants on the wall

If you have an old frying pan and are about to throw it away, you can reuse it thanks to this recycling idea and turn it into a plant pot A frying pan is a utensil found in every kitchen. Because they are inexpensive, they tend to wear out easily. As a result, we buy a new one and throw the old one away, something you will stop doing after learning about this idea for recycling and decorating to hang your plants on the wall.

How to recycle an old frying pan and turn it into a plant decoration

With an old frying pan, you can create a beautiful pot. This decoration can be hung anywhere in the house or garden (depending on the lighting conditions required by the plant) and thus enhance the decoration. For this recycling and decorating idea, we will follow the advice of the YouTube channel ‘Amando mi casa’. According to the instructions, you must first find an old frying pan and some hexagonal wire mesh, also known as chicken wire, which will form the pocket to hold the plants.

Once you have gathered the materials, you will need to measure the mesh to cover approximately half of the frying pan. Cut it with special scissors and leave a surplus of this material to then fold it back and attach it to the kitchen utensil. If the frying pan is very worn and you want to give it a different look, you can paint it with spray paint. The expert in her tutorial uses copper-coloured spray paint with a matte finish. Apply the paint to the mesh (on both sides) as well. Then let it dry before attaching the mesh.

Once the pieces are dry, we can attach the mesh to the frying pan. First, we will shape it by placing the mesh over half of the frying pan. Using tweezers, fold the mesh so that it wraps around the edge and fold the excess to the back. Then, with the tweezers, fold all the loose ends and threads of the mesh inwards. This ensures that the pot is completely secure and will not cause accidents when handled or hung.

To secure and seal the mesh to the frying pan, use epoxy modelling clay. Knead the clay, spread it out and apply it to the edge. Press firmly to ensure that the mesh is embedded and that the joint is well sealed to prevent water from seeping in when watering the plants. Finally, let it dry and start planting. To prevent the soil from coming out through the holes in the mesh, we can line the inside with a layer of moss. Then, place the plants (the expert used several species of kalanchoe) and fill the holes with soil. This way, you will have a beautiful piece of decoration to hang on any wall.
