Recycling: save empty tuna or picadillo cans and turn them into these 3 wonderful DIY ideas

Before you throw away your tuna or picadillo cans, here are three recycling and decorating ideas you can do with them If you love recycling, you probably have several empty tuna or picadillo cans stored away. These small containers, properly washed and disinfected, can be used to create wonderful DIY ideas for both organising and decorating your home.

How to recycle tuna or mince meat tins and turn them into organisational and decorative items

On previous occasions, I’ve told you how to recycle an old frying pan, and we’ve also explored what to do with an egg carton and even kitchen roll tubes. In this case, I’m going to tell you how to recycle and reuse tuna or minced meat tins, turning them into key pieces in the kitchen, study or bedroom.

One of the DIY ideas we can do with these versatile aluminium tins is to create a beautiful candle holder to use with a homemade candle. In this case, you will need to clean the container thoroughly, pour in melted wax and flavour it to your liking with spices such as cinnamon or cloves. Then insert the wick and decorate the outside of the container. Finally, place it in the desired location in your home.

Another do-it-yourself option is to create a small mould for use in the kitchen. Thanks to their small size, tuna tins can be used to make perfect round eggs, mini cakes or muffins. We can also cut out the circumference to use later as cookie cutters or discs for pastries. If we use the tins for cooking, they can only be reused once. If we use them for moulding, they can be reused until the circumference loses its shape.

Finally, the third and last DIY idea is to create desk or dressing table organisers. Inside the tuna or mince tins, we can store paper clips, elastic bands, needles, buttons, rings and any other small objects. The outside of the recycled tin can be decorated to our liking. For greater resistance, it is recommended to paint it with acrylic paint or spray paint.
